As you may recall, last year the Board of Governors Subcommittee on Equal Opportunity, Diversity, and Inclusion put forth various recommendations aimed at promoting more effectiveness and efficiency around equal opportunity and diversity and inclusion activities throughout the University System.
While we work to finalize a System-wide diversity and inclusion policy, I want to call your attention to another of the Subcommittee’s original recommendations: to standardize the online publication of State- and System-wide policies regarding equal opportunity.
This change will ensure that faculty and staff have continuing access to the most current version of State and University System equal opportunity policies and avoid the possibility of duplicate or outdated policies being published via the web at each institution. This is not intended to be a substitute for your institution-specific policies, but simply an addition to these policies as already established by State Human Resources policy or the UNC System Policy Manual.
To this end, by June 30, 2019, please ensure that the relevant websites at your institution link directly to each of the individual System-wide policies on the Equal Opportunity, Diversity and Inclusion page of the System HR website rather than any local copies of these policies:
- Policy on Equality of Opportunity in the University (The Code Section 103)
- SHRA Equal Employment Opportunity Policy
- Unlawful Workplace Harassment
- Reasonable Accommodation
- Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Fundamentals
To reiterate, this instruction does not change the fact that you would still provide links to your own institution-specific equal opportunity and diversity and inclusion policies. This is simply intended to provide consistent links to State-level and University System-level policies that also apply to your faculty and staff.
